Many mainstream Wing Chun practitioners assume that it should look like Taiji's soft pushing hands - that's incorrect. 

Chi Sao is akin to the hard style technique of Qiao Shou or Kiu Sao (橋手), involving the forceful clash of arms through striking, blocking, and diverting. It's intense sparring at close range without causing any actual harm.
